Pianist Garret Ross and cellist Ruth Marshall met in 2009 at the International Festival-Institute at Round Top. Their first performance as a duo was in 2011. Since then, their collaboration has grown and thrived.

To begin their collaborative life, Ms. Marshall and Mr. Ross studied chamber music with various teachers. In 2011, the Artu Duo had a residency at the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada, where they studied the Beethoven Sonatas for Cello and Piano with Colin Carr and Thomas Sauer. In 2012, they were resident artists at the Aldeburgh Festival in Suffolk, England, studying the music of Brahms and Schumann with Menahem Pressler.

Artu Duo has been the ensemble-in-residence at the Apollo Music Festival in Houston, MN, since its founding in 2013. In the same year, they made their debut on the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series at the Cultural Center in Chicago, IL, which was broadcast live on WFMT. Since then, they have played concerts on the Music Northwest Chamber Music Series (Seattle, WA), the Courtroom Concert Series (St. Paul, MN), Spectrum (New York City, NY) and at Bethel University (St. Paul, MN), Butler University (Indianapolis, IN), Illinois State University (Normal, IL), University of Louisiana (Lafayette, LA), and Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge, LA). In November 2016, they made their debut at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.

Mr. Ross and Ms. Marshall are both active as teachers, and have been delighted to participate in outreach activities as a duo. Most recently, they worked with students at Lafayette High School in Louisiana, and the Boys & Girls Club in Bloomington-Normal IL.
